Favourite Oscar Look #1: Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Haute Couture Spring 2011
I knew Cate was going to deliver, but I’m not sure I quite prepared myself for how viscerally I was going to react to this pearl & crystal encrusted lilac gown set against alabaster skin. With Cate’s striking features & that fantastic style she has her silken blonde hair cut into right now, she owned that gown while still showing off it’s inspired detail. A truly great red carpet lady displays a well made gown while simultaneously showing off her own beauty. Such a lady, so possessed, I love that Cate chose a gown that encompassed the traits that all truly great event gowns possess: it photographed beautifully, it was edgy yet feminine & ethereal & it moved beautifully. She worked the red carpet like she was a part of an editorial & strutted down the stage like it was a runway. Seeing the dress move was even more of a treat since the collection wasn’t shown on a runway.
